"Hero" Filipino Surfer rescues opponent, sacrifices bid for gold on SEA Games 2019

During the surfing event of December 6, 2019 of the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Monaliza Point, San Juan, La Union, a heroic thing happened between two athletes.

Team Philippine's Roger Casugay is set to bag the Gold in the #SEAGames2019 surfing championship. But he sacrificed his bid for the Gold Medal to save his opponent from Indonesia, Mencos Cosomen.

The #seagames2019 surfing is on hold. Indonesian longboard sensation @mencosss broke his leash and swept away and being pounded by triple overhead bomb waves at monaliza pt. Local surfer @roger_casugay rescued him not minding the ongoing race for gold medal. #pilipinoheart is soooo goood!!! One of the best. @mylifeonboard #seagames2019

During their heat, Mencos broke his leash while paddling out. Roger, being the closest to him, came to his rescue and paddled back to the shore tandem surfing the beach break.

Roger is from San Fernando, La Union and he knows very well the parts of the popular surfing spot, the Mona Liza's point.

Roger Casugay was also featured in the weekly trending television program, "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" or #KMJS (you can watch the video below).
