Humans have learned to make fire a long time ago, in pre-historic time, they've used it primarily to cook their food, used to heat up in times of cold weather and light up in the dark or even used to scare wild animals like wolves and bears.

Today we could easily make fire with modern tools such as lighter and electric gas stove, but before those tools we first use the match box and match sticks.

A match is a tool for starting a fire. Typically, modern matches are made of small wooden sticks or stiff paper. One end is coated with a material that can be ignited by frictional heat generated by striking the match against a suitable surface.Wikipedia

Some still prefer to use the match to make the fire because its easily accessible and portable and some people still find some ways to play with it.
