Rody Duterte's name surfaced on the list of 2016 Presidential candidates even when he's not yet announcing his plans of running for the highest position in the Philippines.

Even on the start of filing of Certificates of Candidacy, he never showed his interest on the Presidency. On November 27, 2015, he withdrew his COC for Davao City Mayor and filed a new one for the Presidency.

Upon the start of the official campaign period of the 2016 National Elections, Duterte's popularity started to rise and his name became part of the headlines because of his straight to the point and tactless style of talking in front of the media.

Because of being on the top of the election surveys, some of his detractors allegedly misquoted him to drag him down of the race. From his personal jokes, speeches, bank accounts, love life and to his rumored death squads. Everyone's eyes was focused on him, especially the foreign news agencies.

Some people compared him to Donald Trump because of the style of his talking and humor, while others praised him for his anti-corruption and anti-crime campaign.

Many individuals also showed supports to Tatay Digong, they uploaded photos and videos showing the world how good the former Davao City Mayor is.
